What Google has said

In December 2025, after a report that ads would come to the Gemini app in 2026, Google's VP of global ads said there were no ads in the app and no current plans to change that. He added that ads were available in AI Overviews and that Google continued to test ads in AI Mode1.

On Alphabet's first-quarter earnings call on April 29, 2026, chief business officer Philipp Schindler said Google's focus was on AI Mode, but that a format that works well there would transfer successfully to the Gemini app2. He also said Google wasn't rushing anything3.

What would change our status

We'll move the Gemini app from "No ads" once Google announces ads or a test in the app, or once labeled ads are verified in it. Formats built with Gemini models already run in Google Search, including Conversational Discovery ads in AI Mode4. Those are Search placements, not Gemini app placements.
