What Anthropic said
In a post titled "Claude is a space to think", Anthropic argued that conversations with an AI assistant are more personal than searches or social feeds, and that ad incentives conflict with an assistant that acts in its users' interests. It said it would expand access to Claude without advertising12.
The Super Bowl campaign
Anthropic's spots showed human-like advisers breaking off from earnest advice into awkward product pitches, a jab at ad-supported chatbots2. The campaign was released on February 4, 2026, ahead of the game3.
OpenAI's response
Sam Altman called the ads dishonest and said OpenAI would never run ads the way the spots depicted3. OpenAI's published ad principles commit it to keeping ads separate from answers and conversations private from advertisers4.
How we track it
Claude is listed as "No ads" on the status board. We'd update it if Anthropic changed its policy or ads appeared in Claude. AI Ads Tracker isn't affiliated with Anthropic, OpenAI or any company it covers.
